In case you did not know, we are so blessed to celebrate a triple jubilee of St. Thomas Aquinas in the years 2023-2025.
- July 18, 2023 marked the 700th anniversary of St. Thomas’ canonization by Pope John XXII in 1323.
- March 7, 2024, today, marks the 750th anniversary of his death at Fossanova, Italy in 1274.
- January 28, 2025 will mark the 800th anniversary of his birth at Roccasecca, Italy in 1225.
And so today, we remember the 750th anniversary of the passing of St. Thomas to his blessed reward.
After a life of diligent service in the Order of Preachers—seeking and preaching the Truth—Aquinas once again strove to serve the Church by traveling to the Council of Lyons. On the way he fell ill, and took rest in the Cistercian Abbey at Fossanova.
Witnesses reported that despite his illness, he conducted himself with gentleness and patience. The reports of his final days show a man who was deeply in love with his Lord, who in turn was deeply in love with him.
Let us imitate the commitment, humility, and gentleness of St. Thomas in this life, so that with him we can adore the Lord in the next.
St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for us!
In Christ and St. Dominic,
