Even though considering many of life’s important questions have been raging now for more than 52 years, there seem to be more questions today than answers regarding human life!
To help understand how the John Paul II Life and Family Center (JPII Life Center) works with people of ALL beliefs to understand the beauty and dignity of human life, let’s consider some of these important questions.
Questions That Require Truthful Answers
- What does it mean to be human?
- How did our American culture get to where we are today?
- What has created the confusion facing so many American youth today?
- Have you seen the short videos in A Glimpse Inside™ (AGI Link) demonstrate the science and practical realities of when human life begins in the womb of a woman?
- What is causing the hostility of people and hateful expressions of one person to another on issues they disagree on?
- What is influencing the decision making of American youth?
- Why do you believe married couples today are having fewer children?
- Do you believe you can trust as accurate what is stated as news on TV or radio or the newspaper or over the internet?
- Do you believe pregnancy is a disease?
- Do you believe protecting a woman’s reproductive health includes having an abortion?
- Do you believe human life begins at conception?
- What type of healthcare should a pregnant woman receive?
- What is Life-Affirming Healthcare?
- Do you believe women should be honored for the role each woman performs as a mother, wife, and the heart of a home?
Where to Find the Answers
These questions can all be answered based on scientific evidence and/or reason and in a way, where a woman’s health is involved, that provides emotional and physically beneficial results for a woman’s long term good health.
Regarding Women, there is more Agreed-Upon than Not
There are so many things that those on the life side and those on the abortion side can agree on and fewer on which we cannot agree. Some matters we can agree on:
- Women are special.
- Women deserve respect and dignity.
- Women deserve to be loved.
- Women deserve to receive competent medical care.
- Women deserve to have access to educational opportunities.
- Women deserve to be safe from abuse or abusive relationships.
- Women deserve solutions to life challenging and threatening issues when faced with an unplanned pregnancy.
Regarding Women, What are some disagreements?
Some matters on which we disagree:
- Twisting the meaning of words to suit a particular agenda;
- Disrespecting and violating the rights of the unborn child leading to the baby’s death to satisfy the personal choice(s) of the mother, father, or both.
- Any abortion not to save the life of the mother (terminating an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion).
- Not providing truthful information about the harmful effects of drugs being given to women for chemical abortion.
- Women deserve truthful information especially when a woman is emotionally and physically vulnerable. Health professionals must be truthful, candid and share factual and accurate health information. Health professionals should deliver Life-Affirming Healthcare to a pregnant woman. People who profit monetarily from a woman’s condition and from abortion must not take advantage of a woman who is distressed and vulnerable!
An Integral Part of Business and Family Life is Spiritual
In his book, the Spiritual Art of Business author and successful businessman Barry Rowan connects the daily with the divine. Rowan says that from God’s perspective, “we bring meaning to our work, not our work giving us meaning.”
Everyone during their life is searching, often without knowing for what they are searching.
Each reader is given an invitation to live one’s life with God. Rowan recognizes that we are to have compassion for people. We should “live life from the inside out, not the outside in. That is an expression of Christ in us.” He concludes, “we are designed to give our lives away.” “I believe Jesus is who He says He is! We know the end game with Him!” God transforms us in an abiding way – leadership improvement and impact on society for the better is the central take away message of his book.
It is my belief that each individual’s search is for purpose and meaning in her or his life.
St. Augustine gives us insight:
“Those who want to find their joy in externals all too easily grow empty themselves. They pour themselves out on things which, being seen, are but transient… Let us answer them and let them hear the truth; “The light of your countenance has set its seal upon us, O Lord” (Ps 4:7). We are not ourselves that Light which illumines every human being but by you we are illumined, so that we who were once darkness may become light in you. As I read these words outwardly and experienced their truth, inwardly I shouted with joy.”
So purpose and meaning have their foundation in God.
In case you missed my last article describing how the JPII Life Center through its Vitae Clinic physicians effectively use a natural alternative to IVF, go here to read.
What is the Difference between Life-Affirming Healthcare and Secular Healthcare?
The JPII Life Center and Vitae Clinic provides Life-Affirming Healthcare.
Life-Affirming Healthcare we define as supporting all human life, providing care for the mother and the child from the time of conception to birth and throughout one’s life.
At the JPII Life Center we provide Life-Affirming Healthcare for up to a total of three years for the mother. The mother receives personal medical and prenatal care from an OB/GYN at the Vitae Clinic. Texas law allows and provides if the mother should be unfortunate and have an ectopic pregnancy (in the fallopian tube, not the uterus) or if the mother is in danger of death due to complications of the pregnancy, the mother’s life can be saved even though the baby is lost (neither of these procedures is considered an abortion).
Many women or couples have difficulty conceiving, Life-Affirming Healthcare as provided at the Vitae Clinic provides various methods of natural family planning suited to the particular couple.
The Vitae Clinic has more than 300 success stories of women who were told by their previous physician that she could not conceive who after each received infertility care at the Vitae Clinic have from 1-3 children. All of this is achieved naturally and without using In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). This process is less costly than IVF.
No extra embryos have been collected or discarded or otherwise lost as occurs with IVF. An embryo is a fertilized egg, and each embryo is unique and continues to develop from conception and during pregnancy as a human person. The mothers who choose to use the Vitae Clinic OB/GYN’s receive outstanding pregnancy care.
Another 501(c)(3) entity, My Catholic Doctor, has some 183 clinicians across America, Dr. Kathleen Berchelmann, M.D., Co-Founder and CEO, describes their philosophy when providing Catholic healthcare.
The YES of Catholic Healthcare
Dr. Kathleen Berchelmann, on the YES of Catholic Healthcare:
“Catholic healthcare is often criticized for the services we don’t offer– abortion, contraception, euthanasia, etc. But for every ‘no’ in Catholic healthcare there is a ‘yes,’ and it is a better ‘yes.’
“For example, we don’t provide abortion, but we do provide abortion pill reversal, adoption, and comprehensive support for unplanned pregnancies.
“We don’t provide contraception, but we do offer advanced Natural Family Planning/fertility awareness in many methods, billed to insurance pre-deductible and without copay in accordance with the Affordable Care Act. No one should ever have to pay for Natural Family Planning, and there is a method that works for everyone.
“We don’t provide IVF, but we do offer comprehensive, highly effective male and female infertility care that is lower cost and lower risk than IVF. In some studies, the live birth rate for these methods was higher than IVF.
“Our most important YES is our YES to the Holy Spirit, asking the Holy Spirit to be present in every patient encounter.”

“No matter what you do, some people will be difficult and negative. So, you must stay focused on your God-given goals, be who you are, and trust God to do what you cannot do. Real leaders make tough decision, even when it means they end up being less than popular.” (Word For You Today)
